Privacy Policy
Last updated: 26 February 2026
Introduction
Radiophonia is developed and operated by Gibbsoft Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales. This policy explains what data the Radiophonia application (“the App”) and the radiophonia.app website (“the Website”) collect, how that data is stored and used, and what rights you have over it.
We designed Radiophonia to be privacy-first. We do not profile you, serve behavioural advertising, or sell your data to anyone.
What we collect
Data stored on your device only
The following data is created and stored locally on your device. It never leaves your device unless you explicitly enable cloud sync.
- Listening history — station names, song titles, artist names, album names, timestamps, and genre tags for tracks that play while you listen.
- Favourites — stations you mark as favourites and your accumulated listening time per station.
- Preferences — your chosen theme, playback settings, alarm configurations, sleep timer settings, and default country.
- Recently played stations — a short list for quick access.
- Local media library — metadata (title, artist, album, duration) for any personal audio files you choose to play through the App. The App does not access files you have not explicitly selected.
On Android, iOS, and macOS, all local data is encrypted at rest (AES-256) with the key stored in the platform’s secure keychain or keystore. On Windows and Linux, encryption depends on the availability of the platform credential store (Windows Credential Manager or libsecret respectively). On the web, local data is stored in browser-sandboxed storage without additional encryption.
Data collected when you create an account (optional)
Accounts are entirely optional. The App never prompts you to create one. If you choose to sign in, we collect:
- Authentication details — your name and email address as provided by your identity provider (Google, Apple, or email/password). We do not receive or store your identity provider password.
- Sync data — if you enable sync, your favourites, listening history, and preferences are stored in Google Firebase Firestore to make them available across your devices.
Data collected automatically
- Crash reports — if the App crashes, a diagnostic report may be sent containing device model, operating system version, and a stack trace. These reports do not contain your listening history, favourites, or any personally identifiable information.
Data we do not collect
- We do not collect your location.
- We do not record your IP address.
- We do not track you across other apps or websites.
- We do not use cookies on the Website. Website analytics are collected anonymously at the network edge by Cloudflare (see below).
- We do not serve advertisements or share data with ad networks.
Third-party services
The App connects to the following third-party services during normal operation:
| Service | Purpose | Data sent |
|---|---|---|
| RadioBrowser | Station directory (51,000+ stations) | Search queries, country filter |
| BBC RMS API | Now-playing metadata for BBC stations | Station identifier |
| iTunes Search API | Album artwork lookup | Artist name, track title |
| MusicBrainz API | Album artwork and metadata enrichment | Artist name, track title |
| Google Firebase | Authentication and cloud sync (if you opt in) | Account details, sync data |
| Radio station streams | Audio playback | Your IP address is visible to the stream provider |
We do not control the privacy practices of radio station operators. When you play a station, your device connects directly to that station’s stream server, which may log your IP address according to its own policies.
How we use your data
We use the data described above solely to:
- Play radio stations and local media files.
- Display song history, favourites, and listening statistics.
- Sync your data across devices if you enable this feature.
- Diagnose and fix crashes.
We do not use your data for profiling, marketing, or any purpose beyond operating the App.
Data retention
- Local data is retained on your device until you clear it or uninstall the App. History retention is configurable in the App’s settings.
- Sync data in Firebase is retained until you delete your account.
- Crash reports are retained for 90 days and then automatically deleted.
Your rights
Under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018, you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Rectify inaccurate personal data.
- Erase your personal data (“right to be forgotten”).
- Restrict processing of your personal data.
- Data portability — receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format. The App supports CSV export of your listening history.
- Object to processing of your personal data.
- Withdraw consent at any time by disabling sync or deleting your account.
To exercise any of these rights, email [email protected].
Account deletion
You can delete your account at any time from the App’s Settings screen. When you delete your account:
- All synced data (favourites, history, preferences) is permanently removed from Firebase.
- Your authentication credentials are deleted.
- Local data on your device is not affected — you can continue using the App without an account.
Children’s privacy
Radiophonia is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.
Website analytics
The Website uses Cloudflare Web Analytics, which collects anonymous, aggregated traffic data (page views, referrers, country, device type) at the network edge. It does not use cookies, tracking pixels, or any client-side JavaScript beacon, and does not collect personally identifiable information. No consent banner is required.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. If we make material changes, we will update the date and, where practical, notify users through the App.
